The Ethan Banning Files

The Ethan Banning Files

Before Ethan Banning was a down-and-out demon-possessed PI, he was just a down-and-out PI. You can follow his pre-Shoregrave adventures in these short stories, which can be read in any order.

UNGRATEFUL DEAD

Ethan wouldn't normally touch a haunting case. Mostly because he doesn't believe in ghosts. But when Charlie Mullen asks him to spend the night at a supposedly haunted morgue, Ethan figures, why not? He's broke and Charlie's offering double his normal rate, and that's good enough for Ethan.

But when a troublesome ghost really does show up, Ethan realises he's going to need more than a good supply of alcohol to get through the night.

GONE TO THE DOGS

After Ethan is kicked out of his favourite bar, he figures the night can't get much worse. Naturally, he's wrong. A trip to the dog track, a meeting with a wannabe femme fatale, and a revenge scheme gone wrong leave Ethan high, dry, and depressingly sober. And that's after he's been mistaken for a hobo...

ICE, ICE, BABY

Christmas Eve at Ethan's regular bar isn't going according to plan. Yeah, he's got the cash, the whiskey, and the slender possibility of a kiss under the mistletoe, but the dead girl he's found in the ladies' room is really putting a dampener on things...

STAKEOUT

Ethan Banning has a hard time saying no to a damsel in distress, even when her request is insane. So when Tiffany Rhodes asks him to join her in a vigil over her best friend's grave, he agrees. It'll be a simple, dull night, right?

Of course not. Between the amateur Satanists, a family curse, and the risk of zombie attacks, nothing's ever simple for Ethan.

DEMONIZED (Ethan Banning 1)

Coming (back) soon!

PI Ethan Banning is smoking too much, sleeping too little, and hearing voices. One voice, to be exact: the voice of the demon that possessed him on his last case. A voice that urges him to hurt, rape, kill, and Ethan doesn't think he has the strength to ignore it much longer.

When his latest missing person case turns into a murder investigation, Ethan finds himself fighting not just demonic urges, but black magic, an incubus with a hidden agenda, and a client who just won't pay up. Luckily, Ethan's got a few friends on his side, like Detective Anna Radcliffe, and his trusty dog, Mutt. If Ethan can ignore the demon long enough, he might just solve this case before it kills him.

UNDERTOW (Ethan Banning 2)

Private Investigator Ethan Banning is a desperate man.

He’s desperate to rid himself of the demon possessing him. He’s desperate to stop the nightmares and the evil urges that fill him. He’s so desperate, he’s agreed to quit smoking and drinking in exchange for help.

Professor Benedict Walters thinks he can exorcise Ethan with clean living and ancient history, but he won’t do it for free. Ethan’s got to track down Heather, a missing colleague of Walters in the quaint and creepy seaside town of Beacon’s Point. It should be simple...but Heather may not want to be found.

Even if Ethan can crack the case, he’s still got to deal with a trainee necromancer, his own fading self-control, and an ancient entity that terrifies Ethan’s own demonic denizen.

Crack the case? Hell, P.I. Ethan Banning may not even survive it.

Available now from Amazon US, Amazon UK, and Ragnarok Publications.

    1. I guess it's indefinitely on hold? The sales for Undertow have been so poor compared to the other series I'm working on, that I don't feel the time is right to work on it. I hope that will change in the future.

  2. What a shame, Ethan is one of the best anti-heroes I have had the pleasure of reading. I shall pass this book on to what friends I have and hope you get more sales...

    1. Thank you! That's really heartening to hear, and I will return to him some day (I realise I made it sound like I wouldn't because of low sales, but I meant more that I need to prioritize the other series!).
